Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. After her father died as a Carnival barker when Ruth was just a young girl, she had to help keep the family going by working as a maid and server. Ruth attended school, and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. She left the school in the span of two years of school to pursue an acting career. It was not without problems. After obtaining a position in New York as a model for a detective magazine she had a difficult time trying to find jobs for stage. The following job she got was an "hat check" woman at a nightclub but she quit and returned to Boston. She made enough money by working as an usher during the day while working at night with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She studied drama in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
